Microplastic Inspection – Part 2 – Clearance & Fitment Simulation
Inspection of Microplastics, Part 2
Microplastic assemblies are found in most complex products and are directly involved in the core functions of these products. These assemblies are comprised of the smallest, moving features, and thus demand the tightest tolerances. These assemblies are ideal for inspection using Industrial CT because of their low density. This case study examines some capabilities for the inspection of assemblies.
Clearance Mapping
Clearance mapping shows a total view of where parts have clearance or interference. Without a full mapping important points of contact may be missed.
Fitment Simulation
Fitment can be evaluated using two methods: the assembly can be scanned and analyzed in physically different conditions, or the parts can be separated and re-aligned virtually. This analysis can inform engineers in ways that traditional dimensional reports cannot.
